Dust - Sebum Emulsion
Dust-Sebum emulsion soil is widely used in detergency testing due to its resemblance of Ring around the collar. It is the most common and one of the more troublesome soils found in home laundry. Other uses include applications to hard surfaces to test for removal of simulated body oil and finger prints. It also can be used in soil redeposition studies. This emulsion/dispersion can be diluted with water to meet specified soil reflectance for testing on various fabrics i.e. terry cloth, mattress ticking, cotton linen and socks
An emulsion of synthetic sebum¹ containing a dispersion of air conditioner filter dirt is prepared with 100g sebum in accordance with ASTM D4265 A2.16.2 -A2.16.6 and composed of.
Part 1
Palmitic Acid 10 %CAS# 57-10-3
Stearic Acid 5 %CAS# 57-11-4
Coconut Oil 15 %CAS# 8001-31-8
Paraffin Wax 10 %CAS# 8002-74-2
Synthetic Spermacetti 15 %
CAS# 8002-23-1
Olive Oil 20 % CAS# 8001-25-0
Squalene 5 % CAS# 111-02-4
Cholesterol 5 %
CAS# 57-88-5
Oleic Acid 10 %CAS# 112-80-1
Linoleic Acid 5 % CAS# 60-33-3
Part 2
Oleic Acid 8 % CAS#112-80-1
Triethanalomine (TEA) 16 % CAS# 102-71-6
DI Water; heated to 120°F 1300g
Air filter dirt - sufficient to give an L reflectance on cotton cloth of 65 ± 2.
